False alarm!

I think I misdiagnosed when I assumed Lucy's rash was from the food... It has been about a week that we have stopped giving her the rice cereal and the rash is still there.  And I actually think it's eczema... When I looked up eczema on BabyCenter, it pretty much exactly described Lucy's situation (except she doesn't seem to be itchy).  My nephew had it, as did some of my cousins.  It looks like scaly red patches on her back and on the back of one knee.  I'm still going to bring her to the doctor to confirm, but WHEW chances are she's not allergic to her rice cereal.

Which is good because I feel like she's been insatiable since we stopped giving it to her.  The girl needs FOOD.  I understand, yo.  Back on the cereal we go.

So to treat the eczema, I'm going to keep giving her luke warm baths with an Aquaphor massage to follow.  That stuff is amazing... I want to get a tub of it for myself.  Add it to the must haves list!

yes! as a super dry skin person, i was just about to recommend aquafor! and i'll be sure to get a huge tub for my baby lady.

also - i find the simple act of *bathing* in winter can sometimes aggravate my skin. not sure if it's even possible to cut down on baths with lu, but if you find her skin is staying irritated - that might work?

glad she can keep nomming on the good stuff!

i actually read that daily luke warm baths can help with the eczema. but it definitely flared up after a warm bath (which is why i thought it was food, because she gets food, bath, night time). i really hope we dont have to lessen baths because it's her bedtime routine! once she's all squeaky clean and in jammies, all you have to do is put her in her crib and she's like GOODNIGHT FOLKS!

oh my, this probably means i should be taking luke warm showers...sob.

i LOVE a clean snuggly sleepy baby, so boo to less baths!
Aalia had a rash on her lower back and was diagnosed with eczema by 2 pediatric dermatologists (I was concerned and got a second opinion). The doctors told us it is better to use Vaseline instead of Aquafor. Over time your baby can develop a lanolin allergy. Not to mention that Aquafor did not alleviate the rash. Put vaseline on the problem area 4x a day. It will go away in a couple days.

I was born with, and still have, head-to-toe eczema. Don't worry, it is extremely rare for babies to NOT grow out of it. But if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

@lindsey @e -- thank you! i will try vaseline - we have so much of it since the hospital gives you a ton. Er, i mean we took a ton. Did the eczema seem to bother Aalia? Any other tips for winter? Thanks y'all.
