Not just your standard Asian peace sign photo.
You would not BELIEVE how snowy it is here! It’s a real nor’easter. All afternoon I have been watching the white out through my giant windows, it’s insane! If I didn’t despise the cold, I’d trudge out there and take some snowy pictures.
I had a half day today due to the weather, and it gave me time to catch up with one of my favorite Web sites, Flickr. I store and share all of my photos there, so in that respect it’s like a lot of other photo sharing Web sites, but the advantage of Flickr is that it’s also a network of professional and novice photographers and I get a ton of inspiration from their amazing photos. There are tons of cool features that you’d love if you’re into that sort of thing. Here’s my page of photo sets on Flickr – I’d send you to my home page but it starts with about 1,000 wedding photos not taken by me! Which I’m sure I’ve bored you with a million times over already.
My mom has been hounding me for gift ideas, Nat and I have been talking about it too… we just got married and I have all the house stuff I could ever want or need. I can think of things that I want for ME though… and they’re mostly related to photography. I’m definitely not a photographer, but for years now it’s been something I’ve wanted to really get into. I'm not terrible, I had a few pictures selected for Shmapp!! travel guide and some tagged in Flickr's "Interestingness" feature, but I have a long way to go before I actually know what I'm doing. I have a nice DSLR camera, but only know the basics. So this winter I want to take a class and learn how to really use my camera and also how to manipulate the photos after the fact.
The reason why I’m getting off my procrastinating bum and actually taking up one of these things that I’ve been meaning to get really good at for a long time, is that this one is related to Thing, who will be here before we know it. Photos have always meant so much to me… I think if my house burned down that would be the thing I’d miss the most. (Reminder to self: Scan your old photos in case your house actually does burn down.)
I want to have great photos of my kiddo that are interesting and unique in addition to all the fun random snapshots… There is one particular photographer on Flickr who has the CUTEST pics of his kids posted. It doesn't hurt that they're Asian because Asian kids MELT MY HEART. Not to creepily repost his kid pictures, but how much do you love these!
He also has some standard portraits of his daughters that are really really nice. (Also, for those of you scared of the Web, you can make your photos private on Flickr so creeps like me don't steal them.) So if you’re wondering if this means I’m going to use my future kids as puppet subjects for my new hobby, the answer is YES! Wacky Christmas card Mom – that’ll be me.
