But the 2nd trimester isn’t over yet!

And I already have the 3rd trimester blues: weight gain, back pain, and heartburn. OK well the weight gain isn't new...

Yesterday, I went to the doctor.

Nikki: So, that means I’ve gained a total of 27 lbs...
Midwife: Yes.
Nikki: So... I read that I should gain a total of 20-25 lbs throughout the whole 40 weeks... So since I’m at 27 lbs at 26 weeks, should I be worried?
Midwife: Well, I was going to bring that up... If you keep going at this rate, you’ll have gained 50 lbs. You have to figure you’ll only lose about 12 pounds at the point of childbirth from the baby, placenta, and fluids. The rest is all you, so I’d suggest you be careful...

AWESOME. I have never dieted in my life because I’m typically active and eat healthy. But yea so? I’ve been allowing myself some extra ice cream and have been spoiling Baby F with cupcakes and enchiladas. I actually thought I had shrunk my jeans in the wash. Let’s leave this topic now please.

Heartburn. Got it covered. I might be single-handedly keeping TUMS in business. My doc says to have at them, they are perfectly safe during pregnancy and the extra calcium is actually good this 2 for 1 lady train that is me.

Back pain. As I was describing my sciatica, the midwife was shaking her head. Apparently there’s nothing I can do – my center of gravity has changed, causing me to crunch my lower back, pinching my sciatic nerve. She gave me some stretches which I did last night – it helped a little but I still walk like I have a bum leg. Fourteen more weeks of hobbling to go... Someone actually offered me her cane yesterday. Apparently pregnancy doesn’t look good on me...

However, it’s a small price to pay for my healthy baby girl. During the heartbeat scan, she was kicking the hell out of the microphone and moving around so that my stomach looked like a dancing Jell-O mold.

Mmmm Jell-O. Where's a girl to get pudding at 7:45 a.m.?

Eat up those cupcakes and don't even THINK about worrying about it!
